Department of Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics, JMC was establishedin 1987. The Department has remained a landmark of excellence ever since. The Department has highly qualified faculty with specialization in various fields like Functional Analysis, Mathematical Programming, Harmonic Analysis, Algebra, Operation Research, Statistics, Topology, Operator Theory, Invariant Subspaces with application to Machine learning and Artificial Intelligence, Fluid Queues, Soft Computing Techniques, Optimization, Fuzzy Theory, Chaos Synchronization, Nonlinear Dynamical Systems.

The Department offers B.Sc.(Hons) in Mathematics and Generic Elective courses to students of anotherDepartment as well. Along with this, the department faculty also teaches students of Department of Elementary Education.

The course focuses on helping students to become intellectually sound, disciplined and more focused. The department believes in the holistic development of a student. In view of this, along with classroom teaching, Department organises various events like interactive sessions which are chaired by Department faculty and experts from esteemed institutes like TIFR, CMI, IIT, University of Delhi, ISI etc

Students are given ‘hands-on’ training of Softwares such as MATLAB, LaTeX, R and HTML etc through practicals. The course also grooms them to become more effective in the careers they opt for, be it academics, research, actuarial sciences, data analysis, operations analysis, Artificial Intelligence, investment sciences, bankingetc.

Many of our students pursue their further studies in prestigious institutes like IIT, ISI, London School of Economics and other Foreign Universities, University of Delhi, Chennai Mathematical Institute to name a few.

Department Activities

MATHARENA, the annual festof department fest is a huge success with student participation from all colleges of DelhiUniversity.

In 2019, the Guest of Honour for the day was Mr. Bhanu Prakash J.N, the fastest human calculator with 3 world records and 50 Limca records.
