About Society

The MUN society of Jesus and Mary College is a renowned entity within the Delhi and NCR MUN circuit, recognized for managing a comprehensive array of activities, including educational seminars and conferences. In October 2023, the society initiated its recruitment process, which involved completing a Google Form, participating in group discussions on topics like Gaza Strip violence and the relevance of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), and attending personal interviews. This rigorous process successfully recruited enthusiastic new members.

The society organized several seminars and events to engage students in critical thinking and prepare them for MUN conferences. On October 11, 2023, an introductory event featured Krishna Thakur, a seasoned MUN enthusiast, as the keynote speaker. Thakur shared insights on MUN procedures and practical diplomacy, receiving positive feedback and sparking high interest in the society. On December 1, 2023, Dr. Srikanth Kondapalli, Dean of the School of International Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University, delivered a seminar on India-China relations, covering political, cultural, and economic aspects and engaging students through an interactive Q&A session. Additionally, on March 12, 2024, a career guidance seminar was held in collaboration with the English Debating Society of JMC. Speakers Sandeep Gupta and Ranjika Mitra provided a roadmap for GMAT and GRE preparation, benefiting approximately 400 students.

The International Press Division of JMCMUN organized activities for journalists to write blogs on topics such as gender inequality in politics, child marriage, COP 28's relevance, and post-pandemic economic inequality. These activities aimed to enhance journalistic skills and encourage critical thinking. Regular training sessions were conducted by Rahul Menon and Lovisha from 'Implementors,' focusing on research methods, understanding diverse committee agendas, and improving journalistic abilities, ensuring members were well-prepared for future conferences.

The highlight of the society's activities was the JMCMUN'24 conference held on February 23-24, 2024. The conference attracted delegates from various institutions across Delhi and NCR and covered a wide array of pressing global issues, including cybercrime, AI in the Israel-Palestine conflict, drug trafficking, politicization of education, green trade, and international press. The event facilitated insightful deliberations and innovative solutions, contributing to its success. The closing ceremony featured a heartfelt vote of thanks from the President and Vice President, distribution of prizes for outstanding contributions, and marked the end of a memorable and impactful conference.
