Event Report: One-Day Workshop on Careers in Forensic Science

Resource Institution: Sherlock Institute of Forensic Science (SIFS India)

Objective

This workshop aimed to introduce students to the dynamic and multidisciplinary field of forensic science, highlighting diverse career pathways such as forensic psychology, forensic accounting, cyber forensics, and more. It sought to ignite curiosity and encourage students to explore impactful roles in both public and private sectors.

Session Highlights

Led by experts from the Sherlock Institute of Forensic Science—an organization renowned for its investigative services and training programs—the session blended conceptual insights with hands-on learning. Students actively participated in:

  • Signature and handwriting analysis
  • Fingerprint pattern detection and interpretation
  • Demonstrations of forensic tools and techniques

The resource persons also shared real-world case applications and emphasized the growing relevance of forensic expertise across industries

Participation & Engagement

The workshop welcomed 75 students from Jesus and Mary College, Kamala Nehru College, Gargi College, and Maitreyi College. The diverse representation fostered rich dialogue and collaborative learning. Students engaged enthusiastically with the activities, asked insightful questions, and reflected on how their academic interests could align with forensic careers.

Outcomes

  • Students gained foundational exposure to forensic science as a career domain.
  • The session demystified niche roles and encouraged exploration of specialized fields.
  • Many participants expressed interest in pursuing internships and certification programs offered by SIFS India.

Jesus and Mary College organized a Design Thinking Workshop on 25 September 2025 as part of the Samarth Bharath Initiative. The session was coordinated by Ms. Nimmy Rose Jacob, an academic and community leader at the college, and featured Dr. Samir Gokarn as the distinguished speaker.

Objectives

The workshop aimed to:

  • Introduce participants to the principles of design thinking
  • Explore its application in fostering entrepreneurship and innovation
  • Encourage students to adopt creative problem-solving approaches for real-world challenges

Key Highlights

  • Design Thinking Framework: Dr. Gokarn explained the stages of empathy, ideation, prototyping, and testing, emphasizing their relevance in academic and entrepreneurial contexts.

Empowering Young Minds: Seminar on Cybersecurity and AI at Jesus and Mary College

New Delhi, September 24, 2025 — Thevenet Hall at Jesus and Mary College, University of Delhi, was abuzz with enthusiasm as over 800 students gathered for a transformative seminar titled “Cybersecurity and AI in the Age of Start-ups.” Organized by the college’s Skill Development Center in collaboration with the Samarth Bharath Initiative and the Udmodya Foundation, the event marked a significant stride in digital literacy and entrepreneurial readiness.

Distinguished speakers Prof. N. K. Goyal and Mr. Nirmesh Kumar from the Cybersecurity Association of India (CSAI) led the session, offering students a deep dive into the evolving landscape of cyber threats, data protection, and the ethical dimensions of artificial intelligence. Their interactive presentations demystified complex topics such as spam calls, phishing, and digital hygiene, making cybersecurity accessible and actionable for young learners.

The seminar witnessed enthusiastic participation not only from Jesus and Mary College but also from neighbouring institutions including Gargi College, Maitreyi College, and Kamala Nehru College. In addition to the 800+ student attendees, a large number of faculty and staff members joined the session, underscoring the collective commitment to fostering a safe and informed digital ecosystem.

To wrap up the session, students engaged in a lively quiz that reinforced key learnings and sparked spirited discussion. The event served as a timely reminder of the critical role educational institutions play in preparing youth to navigate the digital age with confidence and integrity.
