Life on Campus

JMC campus is constantly abuzz with activity. The college provides an environment that is conducive to the holistic development of students- physical, intellectual, emotional and cultural. From music concerts to heritage walks, street plays to lectures, there's always something happening on campus. Our events calendar is packed with academic dates and events sponsored by departments, societies and other student groups.

Freshers' Welcome Party

To welcome the new students at the onset of the academic session, the Student Council organizes the Freshers' Party each year. This day is dedicated to the freshers to showcase their talents. The function begins with the lighting of the lamp and a welcome address to the freshers by the Principal. Students including the freshers& seniors from various societies of the college- dance, music, drama,etc.- create an electric ambiance with their marvellous performances.

All the departments individually organize their Freshers' Parties where the department teachers and senior students welcome the new students into their departments.

Besides the Annual College Fest, Montage, each department in the college organises an annual fest. The annual fest of Department of Economics, "Ecovantage" provides an excellent platform for academic engagement. The department hosts lectures by eminent personalities, panel discussions and paper presentations as a part of the fest, where students can test their knowledge in the field of economics. There are fun events too: Economics Quiz, International Trade Game, Brand Tambola, Campus Surfers to name a few.

Com' Acumen, the annual fest of Department of Commerce is quite popular among the students and witnesses huge participation of students from other colleges as well. Interesting events like Brand Tambola, Trade Smart, Com' Hunt, Stakeholders Meet provide an excellent opportunity to learn and rejuvenate.

Teachers' Day Celebration

5th September is celebrated to honour Dr.SarvepalliRadhakrishnan, a great teacher, academic philosopher and India's Second President as he was born this date in 1888. In Jesus and Mary College, Teacher' Day is organized by the Student Council.Students of JMC shower their love and respect to their teachers by giving them hand-made cards, saplings, candle holders and greetings. Cultural performances include dance, music and skit by cultural societies of the college. Games are organized for teachers which are interactive and entertaining. The day concludes with a lunch for all the Teaching and Non-Teaching Faculty of the college.

AGM of Parent Teacher Student Association

Jesus and Mary College Parents Teachers Students Association is comprised of representatives of parents and teachers, along with the Students Council members and Conveners of Societies. Each year, an Annual General Body meeting of the PTSA is convened. This is an opportunity for the parents to interact with the faculty as well as be informed of the key activities undertaken by the college. The incoming office bearers of student representatives take an Oath vowing to work for the ideals and vision of the college. A prize distribution ceremony is also held to award students for their meritorious achievements. In 2019 the AGM was held on September 14 which was organized by the PTSA committee.

One of the biggest events of the National Service Scheme (NSS) is the annual Diwali Mela "Sparsh". It is organised with immense enthusiasm and zeal, with the aim to promote NGOs and other social organizations.

Mercatus, the marketing society of Jesus and Mary College, organises Amusement Day every year. The event is organised as per a theme every year. Students get to enjoy a variety of fun-filled activities and food stalls.

Independence Day Celebration

The Independence Day Celebration is organized in JMC by the Indian Culture Society on the 14th of August to commemorate the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters and our leaders. This day is celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour. The celebrations begin with the lighting of the lamp and an inaugural speech by the Principal of the college. The cultural programme includes dancing, singing of patriotic songs and a skit (theatrical performances). A group of students and teachers share inspirational quotes on Freedom and express their views on ‘What does Freedom Mean to Me?' The celebrations conclude with the singing of the National Anthem.

Dastaan, the Art and Architecture Society, organises heritage walks. The nitty gritty of architecture and lesser known facts about monuments of historical importance are explained to the students.

Sukoon is the annual fest of Peace Society. The event involves activities like yoga & musical healing sessions, poetry, photography and painting competitions. The aim is to instil the importance of inner peace among the students and propagate harmony.

QuizTopia is the annual quiz fest of Curiosus, the English Quiz Society. Quiz-Topia receives large footfall every year and participation from more than 30 colleges. The quizzing events are theme based/issue centric and revolve around a variety of topics ranging from entertainment to politics.

The Natasha Ranjit Memorial Debate conducted by the English Debating Society, receives participation from various colleges and educational institutions. The debating tournament comprises of preliminary rounds, quarters, semi-finals and finals. It is an excellent forum for the debate enthusiasts.


Jesus and Mary College's Convocation Committee is entrusted with the responsibility to conduct Convocation Ceremony. It is an annual event to honour our brilliant students who have achieved academic excellence and includes the distribution of degrees to students graduating from Jesus and Mary College.


The academic year concludes with a warm and loving farewell to the final year students by their juniors. The farewell given by the teachers is a unique event in the campus that is eagerly awaited. It is a memory created that alumnae recall with much fondness

JMCMUN is a two day effort towards creating an environment complimented by the significant ideals of awareness and agility. The MUN conference conducts committee simulations, involving intense deliberation, debate, allegations, arguments and solutions to problems pertaining to specific agendas.

Kahkasha, Hindi Dramatics Society is one of the prominent dramatics society in the Delhi University Theatre circuit. The society has given performances within the campus and outside. Important issues are picked up and efforts are made to reach out to the larger audience through street plays.

Student Council Elections

The academic year gets kicked off with the election of the Student Council through a fair and free democratic process with active participation of students. The Elections are held for the President and the Vice President in which over 1,500 students cast their votes each year under the supervision and support of the Advisors to the Student Council. The Student Council organises many annual events in the college.
