The Film Appreciation Society of Jesus and Mary College is a microcosm of the real world, a space where people of different beliefs and ideologies, likes and dislikes come together to share a cinematographic experience. The language of cinema is universal which crosses all boundaries. The society makes an attempt to make one aware of the potential of cinema and empower the audience aiming towards a more enriching experience. It has been formed to encourage the appreciation of film from the point of view of art and education, as well as entertainment. The main aim is for faculty and students to watch and share their favorite films and documentaries and be introduced to some new ones followed by a reflection and discussions by invitees and students. Such discussions enhance the scope for perspective building.
As a student there could be three reasons for joining the society-
The society holds regular movie and documentary screenings belonging to different genres, notices of which are put up on the society board and on the board outside the principal’s office. All members are informed about the screenings via sms. Anyone is welcome to come to the screenings and is encouraged to get involved in the society. The society, at present, has 24 members drawn from various disciplines.
The society does NOT have any requirements for joining. All you need to do is to contact any of the Faculty Members, President or Vice-President and give your name, course and year.
