"Ethnic Eight" - North East Society

This society is a unique one focused on promoting the socio-cultural diversity of north east India and its population so as to integrate and include them with rest of India/Indians and amongst JMC students. The student members are only from North eastern states, and last two years, the society has started taking students from Ladakh, Nepal as members. In order to make the members of the society, there have been concerted efforts to innovative initiatives to make its members come out of their shyness, reticence and mix freely. So during the last 3 years since 2016, the society has been organising north east specific socio-cultural events and festivals. When the society undertook its First Inter College North East Cultural Festival in 2017, the response had been enormous and there has been no looking back for its members who have made every effort to showcase their diverse states and its unique culture in subsequent festivals. The popularity of this festival and society is reflected in inter- mixing of north east and non north east students in a spirit of camaraderie and mutual collaboration.

The society had started a new initiative of holding interactive events and presentations on north eastern states among their members so as to learn about each other fellow sister states since August 2019. These presentations featured on Sikkim, Assam, Manipur and Ladakh in the July- November semester and were received well amongst members both for informative and cultural values. A documentary on North East States was screened as well. The members participated in the Anti Plastic Collection cum Recycling Drive on both cycles held on 3 rd October 19 and 6 November 19 by contributing plastic wastes. They organized a Bamboo dance game on Diwali mela of the college as a fund raiser as well as adding to the fun element of the mela. This year they decided to collect toys by donating a toy each and they offered the Toys collection to the Kailash Satyarthi Foundation on 14 th November 2019.
